Soaking Sunday.

Braved the rain in the morning (had to, K was panicking about the food situation and the fact that she had nothing for packed lunch on Tuesday) so we set off during a slight lull in the downpour. Still ended up wet through though. After dinner, I caught up with the recordings I had made on my new PVR and generally slouched around the place.  As soon as we have packed the shopping away, K is back in her pyjamas before you can say ‘Jack Robinson’ so she was slouching around as well. In fact, she had a sleep after dinner. (Hmm. I must remember to get her thyroid checked at the doctors.) She does seem to do a lot of sleeping these days.

Sunshine Saturday.

Despite the forecast of rain, we were very lucky on Saturday for our walk along the canal (again!) with C.R.E.W. I swear that I will soon know every blade of grass, every narrow boat, every duck and every fisherman’s name before much longer. Although it had been spitting as we exited the flat, it stayed dry all the walk and we actually kept seeing some sunshine breaking through. We were supposedly going to have dinner in the Black Horse, but K and I got our own way and we ended up in the Railway Inn at Mirfield. We love that pub for it was there where we were first introduced to Stowell’s White Zinfandel which has become our firm favourite. It beats any other make into fits in our opinion.

Fantastic Friday!

We’ve had some really good news! I’ve been awarded the Carer’s grant and so we will be going to Cayton Bay (lot’s of lovely reminiscing for me!) for a few days, staying in a mobile home. I shall of course be taking my camera with me, hopefully we’ll manage to fit in a day in Whitby (want to see the Abbey ruins) and I’ll take lot’s and lot’s of photos.

Hmm. That wine looks like a bottle of white zinfandel.

We are both really really excited. Its ages ago since we had a holiday and stayed in a mobile home.

Sausage less Sunday.

This week to spare my readers having to endure the pain of having to read through my usual load of drivel, or worse, my rants and raves about the most mundane subjects I can come up with, I intend to have a ‘picture a day’ week instead. Prompted by the fact that I shall hopefully be rather busy with something else this week,  this idea is to save me the bother of racking my brains trying to find something entertaining to post about, or wandering out the flat in order to hopefully have some exciting incident occur right in front of my eyes, or be involved in some awe inspiring adventure to keep my two readers glued to reading this blog. Each picture will either consist of a photograph taken of some feature of that particular day that hopefully sums the day up without any extra text having to be applied in order to explain it. You’ll get the picture I hope. (pun intended.)

Sunshine Saturday.

After being left on my own following K’s departure for a shopping spree with her Dad, I decided not to waste the first day of summer sunshine we have experienced since June and go on a walk. A photo shoot walk. After all, when better to take one’s camera with you than when the sun is shining and all the colours look so bright and shiny?  Besides which, being in the sun makes me feel so much better about the world. I feel happier, sunnier, warmer, brighter and far more able to cope with the trials and tribulations that life has a tendency to throw at you now and again. Setting off by walking through the cemetery might not at first appear such a bright idea seeing as I will no doubt be permanently housed there at some point in the near future, but it is a shortcut to where I had decided to begin my walk, and strangely enough was fairly busy this morning full of other people deciding to do exactly the same thing.

Fed up Friday.

This morning I have been forced to listen for the hundredth time (and watch via YouTube) the opening song to Mr Ed.  sigh. So as its Friday and  I don’t see why I should end the working week (for those who work) suffering alone, here is the offending video. (I’m beginning to regret these horse riding lessons!) She says that she can remember watching Mr Ed on the television as a young girl.  Next she’s be pestering me to send off for a CD of Mr Ed songs. Either that, or a DVD of his old programs.  I bet anything that she is expecting the horses at the riding school to talk back to her.

BFA

As K and I stood waiting for our taxi yesterday in Tesco’s car park, we were nearly given a close body shave by a driver who pulled up sharply in the taxi pick up area, where he got out of his rather posh large car and leaving his car door open, quickly dashed over to the cash machines. He was fairly young and sported some designer sunglasses. On returning to his car a few minutes later, he glanced back at both of us as if we were something the cat had dragged in, climbed back in and drove off with the usual flourish that some drivers do who think they are a cut above the rest. All that was missing was the screech of tyres and both of us left standing there covered in a cloud of dust.  As he sped away I noticed the last letters of his number plate.

B F ACan you guess what I said they stood for to cause K to howl with laughter?

It’s wear and tear.

meniscustears

Woke up this morning and could hardly walk. I must have twisted my knee yesterday though I don’t remember doing so. We walked down to do our shopping as usual, and it definitely didn’t do the twisted knee any good doing so.  The  shopping trip  proved to be a real pain as I spent the entire merry-go-round clinging to the trolley limping along like Hopalong Cassidy. My face must have looked  a picture judging by the looks from other shoppers.  Didn’t stop them walking in front of me to reach an item from a shelf though, limping along  or not.

Yet another canal walk.

As the walk leader had considered the intended long walk today as far too muddy owing to the recent rain we have been experiencing the last two months or so last few days, it was decided that we repeat our now famous walk alongside the canal. We all had to meet up in our bus station at 10.45am. K was reluctant to go. She much preferred waltzing back to Huddersfield to purchase a new mobile phone that we had seen earlier in the week for herself. (more of which on my other techy blog when I get around to it.)  After talking her around by suggesting we did the walk and then moseyed off to Huddersfield, thereby killing two birds with one stone, she finally relented and we met up with the others at the specified time.

Total Recall….or not.

Traipsing up to the local Post Office clutching the letter that I took with me down to town yesterday to post and promptly forgot despite walking right past the town Post Office, set me thinking as I very often do just  how lousy my memory is. I haven’t even the excuse that its only been this way since I became a senior citizen. I’ve always had a lousy memory. As long as I can remember. (pun intended.)  I mean, how many other people do you know of who have to get daily reminders from their daughter who’s special needs are such that she is reputed to have a ‘short term memory deficit?’

A Quest for some bath mats.

Only title I could come up with and highly deceptive seeing as we haven’t got a bath. Remember last week folks when I was bored and fed up with nothing to do and moaning and groaning all week about it? All that is now over, I’m now back to being dragged out of doors on any pretext, come rain or come shine, whether ill or well.

Despite the black looking clouds and the fact that from dawn this morning until ten or thereabouts it had poured down none stop, I decided to throw caution to the wind and wear my summer sandals for my enforced outing today.

She’s back!

The boss arrived back at roughly 10.00am. She hadn’t even reached the top of the stairs before I was handed a list of ‘things to order from Amazon’  I don't know smile

First stop was the letter rack to open all of her birthday cards. Some contained money. She asked me what the total amount was.  Then she jotted down the price of all items on her Amazon list. Did she have enough to cover everything? Just about. I was then pestered ruthlessly until I went online and ordered them all.  All I will say is this.  We need a bigger flat.

Here are the items in no particular order. (No pun intended.)

Yesterday and today.

Yesterday the plumber finally  arrived. It turned out to be one half of the A team. Remember? The duo who on seeing the amount of work involved in sorting out the leak last time promptly scarpered off on holiday? He’s lost his trusty sidekick. Apparently because the young un had completed his second year at college, The housing association could not afford to keep him on and so he’s been finished. This led to a lengthy discussion between us both about the sad demise of apprenticeships and who was going to do all the plumbing, electrics and joinery jobs when the older guys retire.

I’m all plumbed out……

13-things-plumber-04-af

Those readers of mine who have known me for quite some time and are well aware of my luck might have all guessed by now that my enforced stint of waiting around yesterday for a plumber to arrive to fix the shower head holder ended up being a wasted day. Eventually at 4.30pm I rang the repair office to ask where this expected plumber had disappeared to.

“Sorry, Mrs L, somehow you have been missed from the list of people to contact, he has rung in today sick, can I make another appointment with you?”

Nothing to see here……

Looking down on the M62

Nothing much to post about. K toddled off to respite on Friday. (In a taxi) I busied myself tidying up the flat, mainly out of boredom. Saturday morning donned my new walking boots and moseyed down to town to meet the other members of C.R.E.W. We walked up Thornhills and then across Hartshead Moor area. Hadn’t a clue where we were. We did cross the M62 at one point. I took a photo of the traffic. Well, not so much the traffic, more the perspective of the road disappearing into the distance I suppose. Experienced one of my funny turns walking over the footbridge on our return journey over the footbridge later.
